Bobby Zamora was left speechless after his call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Hungary at Wembley.
The Fulham frontman was rumoured to be on the verge of making the plane to South Africa for the World Cup but a long-standing Achilles injury meant he was forced to undergo surgery.
But after gaining full fitness, Zamora cannot wait to give his all should Capello hand him an international debut on Wednesday.
"I'm lost for words," said the striker. "It's a massive honour and a privilege to play for England so I'm extremely chuffed.
"I've got a chance to do well for England. That's the way I see it and that's the way I've got to take it. I'll give it my all. I'm just looking to do well.
"I want to do what I do best which is holding the ball up and bringing people into play. Hopefully we can get that win. I had a good season last year and I'm definitely looking to continue my form from last year.
"I certainly wouldn't have done myself justice or the country justice had I gone [to the World Cup]. The operation was needed which I had over the summer.
"I was an untried and untested player at international level and I still am. So nobody knows the difference I would've made in South Africa. I'm just looking forward to the game, hopefully getting a game and doing as well as I can."
