Captain impressed with younger players at Wembley.
England captain Rio Ferdinand was impressed with the emergence of a number of young prospects, despite the Three Lions slipping to a 2-1 defeat to France at Wembley Stadium.
“All-in-all, I think some positives came out of it," he said. "I thought Andy Carroll did well today, on his debut, and Jordan Henderson handled the occasion well so I think those are the positives,’ he said.
“We could have done better, we didn’t really pass the ball and we didn’t really get going until the last 15 minutes when we put them under a bit of pressure.”
“Two-and-a-half years ago was a totally different England team to what you saw today,” he said
“Don’t forget, there were two debutants out there and Kieran Gibbs has only made a few appearances so you can’t really compare the teams of then and now."
The defender is now looking forward to the next time the national side meet when he expects a thorough run through of Wednesday’s events.
“We didn’t play to our strengths today. We didn’t control the ball or retain possession so I am sure they are things we will be working on next time we meet up.”
