Theo Walcott is determined to continue his stunning club form when England take on Bulgaria at Wembley on Friday.
The 21-year-old Arsenal midfielder has scored four goals in his last two games for Arsenal and believes he is a better player because of his summer break, when he was left out of Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
The Three Lions' Euro 2012 campaign starts with their Group G clash against Bulgaria on Friday night, followed by a trip to Basel to face Switzerland on Tuesday.
And Walcott said: "This season has gone very well so far for club and country. I had a very good pre season and a nice break over the summer.
"I just looked at myself after I was left out of the World Cup squad. I didn't want to blame anyone, I had to blame myself and make sure it didn't happen again.
"Now I've got to train well and work hard to get in the team on Friday night. The Manager has got faith in me, it's nice to be back in the squad and back with my mates.
"We have a nice balance between young players and experienced players. Only time will tell if we're a very good team - which I believe we are. As long as we get the three points, that's the most important thing."
The young Gunner is under no illusions that that will be a foregone conclusion but he is hopeful that, with the continued support of the England fans, they can get the desired result.
"No game is easy at international level. When teams come to a fantastic fortress like Wembley they put people behind the ball and it's very hard to break them down.
"As players we want to go out there and prove people wrong, show we can do it on the pitch.
"We just want to get a win for the fans - they give us tremendous support - it doesn't matter how we do it."
