Fabio Capello articulated his belief that England have the potential to achieve success at next year’s FIFA World Cup.

The England Manager was speaking ahead of his side’s Qualifier in Kazakhstan where he hopes to maintain his 100 per cent record on the road to South Africa; he has supervised the collection of 15 points from five matches so far and he will look to add another three points to this impressive tally in Almaty on Saturday.

England produced a comfortable 5-1 dismissal of Kazakhstan at Wembley Stadium in October and, despite the rigours of another hectic domestic campaign, Capello insists he wants to end the season on a high.

"At the end of the season, the players are not fresh like when we started," he said. "But we have to play two very important games against Kazakhstan and Andorra [on Wednesday].

"The problems of players, if they are tired or not, is no excuse. We have to play, we have to win and everyone who plays has to be very strong. There will be no excuses that we are tired or wanting a holiday."

Should England garner six points from the next two matches, it will bring them ever closer to the World Cup, where Capello predicts a strong showing from his charges.

"First we have to get through to South Africa," he warns, "but I think we will be a very good team if we achieve that.

"We are very strong and we can play against all the best teams of the best countries in the world.

"I am very happy with these players, with this group and I have big confidence in the future."

The 2010 World Cup Group 6 Qualifier kicks off at 9.00pm local time, which is 4.00pm BST and will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports 1.
