Midfielder James Milner hopes his versatility can help England.
England's James Milner is targeting a starting berth in Fabio Capello's line-up this weekend, when the Three Lions face Brazil in Qatar.
The Aston Villa ace has impressed in his appearances from the bench for England since breaking into the Senior squad earlier this year and is hoping that a continuation of his hard work in training and during his time on the pitch will convince Capello that he is worth a place in the starting eleven
"You always want to start games and you've got to prove that you're good enough to be in this squad and it's about battling for a place in the team," said Milner.
"Then you've just got to go out there and play as well as you can."
Milner's versatility on the pitch is one aspect which he hopes can help him further establish his presence in the squad, with the former Under-21 star being able to fill in on either side of the pitch in midfield or defence.
Having been involved in Under-21 competitions over the last few years, Milner is more than aware that the ability to fill more than one position can be vitally important.
"There is competition for places all over the field and tournament football is very different, as you're going to get injuries and suspensions and things like that," he added.
"So if people can play in different positions all over the field that can help, but I just want to concentrate on what I can do on the field and if the Manager wants to use me, then that's great."
