Steven Gerrard's strike against Germany in Munich voted in top ten England goals

Steven Gerrard's glorious 30-yard drive against Germany in Munich has made it into our top ten best England goals, as selected by England fans.

Late last year we asked fans via our official England Facebook page to choose their favourite Three Lions strikes, and the Liverpool midfielder's cracker in the 5-1 World Cup qualifying win was voted at number nine.

And it's easy to see why his strike, which put England in front in the Olympiastadion, is amongst the favourite moments for the loyal band of followers who remember the amazing night in Germany.

Carsten Jancker had given Rudi Voller's team the advantage with just six minutes played, but Gerrard's Anfield club mate Michael Owen finished off a wonderful team goal to level with 12 minutes on the clock. 

With half-time looming, Sven-Goran Eriksson's men would have settled for a 1-1 scoreline at the break. However, Gerrard wanted more.

David Beckham's clipped in cross from the right found Rio Ferdinand on the edge of the area and the Leeds United defender nodded back into the path of Gerrard.

The 21-year-old controlled the ball first-time with his chest and his second touch swept the ball emphatically through the crowd, swerving into the bottom corner of the net.

Legendary German keeper Oliver Kahn could do nothing to stop the youngster's first goal for England in what was only his sixth appearance.

And it helped set them on the way to a memorable 5-1 win, with second half goals coming from Michael Owen, who completed his hat-trick, and another Liverpool man, Emile Heskey.

England went on to beat Albania four days later, before drawing with Greece at Old Trafford, which sealed their place in Korea and Japan.

Germany had to settle for a place in the play-offs where they defeated Ukraine and eventually went all the way to the Final, losing 2-0 to Brazil.
