Steven Gerrard will be at the first ever FA England Awards on Sunday evening and reckons it should become a regular fixture on the football calendar.

There will be 11 awards presented at St. George’s Park with all 24 England teams recognised for their work and achievements in 2012.

And as Three Lions captain, Gerrard feels that it is important for everyone involved across Club England to celebrate as The FA’s 150th anniversary year gets underway.

The Liverpool midfielder said: “There should always be an England awards night – a lot of other countries do it.

“It means players from the younger age groups right up to the Senior team, the Women’s teams and the disabled teams can all get in a room together and celebrate the individuals that have had great years.”

Meanwhile, Gerrard believes it has been his commitment to the England cause over the years which resulted in him collecting his 100th cap against Sweden last time out.

The 32-year-old was presented with a commemorative shirt by Roy Hodgson after that game in Stockholm and will receive a golden cap for his achievement.

And Gerrard, among the five contenders for England Player of the Year at the Awards, feels his work over the years has led to all of the accolades he has since received.

He said: ”I’ve always tried my best to make myself available for England and every time I’ve played, I’ve given it everything that I’ve got.

“I’ll admit my performances haven’t always been great but it’s never been through not wanting to be here, or lack of effort or not mattering as much to me as club football.

“I’ve always applied myself the same all the way. When I used to lose for England in the early days, it hurt just as much as it does today.”
