Roy Hodgson coached hopefuls from Nike's The Chance at St. George's Park

Roy Hodgson was impressed with a group of young hopefuls as he put them through their paces at St. George's Park this week as part of Nike's The Chance Global Tour.

The Chance is a unique worldwide talent search that gives amateur footballers the opportunity to prove themselves on an elite stage and take their game to the next level.

Nike’s partnership with The FA granted the squad unrestricted access to St. George's Park as well as elite-level coaching from England Under-21s Coach Stuart Pearce and England Manager Hodgson.

Hodgson's session focused on movement, possession and crossing, as he emphasised the importance of timing runs both with and without the ball.

Hodgson oversaw a technical eight-sided game with a three-touch restriction before sitting down with Nike Academy Head Coach and FA Scout, Jimmy Gilligan, to discuss the players.

"It is great that Nike has The Chance and I think it's even more praiseworthy that the Nike Academy exists, where there are players working all the time," Hodgson said.

"It will be a magnificent achievement for the three players who are selected to join the Nike Academy.

"For those players who are not selected, they need to see it as an incredible opportunity where they have learned many things and go home stronger from the whole experience."
