Joe Hart's penalty save from England team-mate Frank Lampard helps Manchester City to victory

Joe Hart kept Manchester City's title chase alive on Sunday, with a penalty save from England team-mate Frank Lampard setting them up for a 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The score was still 0-0 when Hart's superb save denied Lampard the opening goal - a relief for the 'keeper as he had brought down Demba Ba to give away the spot-kick in the first place.

And City boss Roberto Mancini says the title race is not yet over for City, as goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez followed on from Hart's heroics.

He said: "I think the penalty save was important because the game could change but also if they had scored, we had another 40 minutes and we were playing really well.

"We could have had a chance to score other goals.

"We can't concede a penalty like this from a kick from 45 metres. Hart and Kolo Toure both did a mistake, but the save was fantastic."

The result leaves City 12 points behind leaders and local rivals Manchester United in the Premier League table and they are refusing to give up on the title.

Mancini added: "In football it's finished when it's finished, in the last minute of the last game.

"If we arrive with four games to go and United are 12 points ahead it's finished, but our job is to continue to work.

"For us it's not important to look at the table, only to continue to work like today, to play well and to improve because we can improve. Only this and maybe look at the table in one month."

City's side also featured England Under-21 star Jack Rodwell, returning after injury to make his first start since September, while James Milner was selected in midfield.

Chelsea included Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill in defence and Lampard in midfield.

Up at St James' Park, former England Under-21 stars Jack Cork and Adam Lallana both provided assists, for Morgan Schneiderlin and Rickie Lambert respectively.

Southampton also fielded England Under-21 right-back Nathaniel Clyne in defence as they were beaten 4-2 by Newcastle.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "We are very sad about the result, especially taking into account how well we started. But especially after we got the first goal, we couldn't really control the game as we should have.

"We went in at the end of the first half losing the game and for their second goal, it is clear that there was a foul on Clyne and then that was followed up by an offside.

"That is clear on the images. It's not a complaint, but these are details that had an influence on the end-result of the match."
