England winger Aaron Lennon proves winner for Spurs in north London derby

Aaron Lennon proved to be match-winner in Sunday's north London derby as Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal by 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

The England winger put Spurs 2-0 up late in the first half, after the in-form Gareth Bale had given the hosts a 37th minute lead.

Lennon's goal was set up by fellow England team-mate Scott Parker, whose slide-rule pass split the Arsenal defence, allowing the former Leeds star to round 'keeper Wojciech Szczesny and slot home.

Spurs included England defenders Kyle Walker and Michael Dawson in their back four and were breached early in the second half when Per Mertesacker glanced a header home to give the Gunners a lifeline.

However, despite the probing of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott in front of watching England Manager Roy Hodgson, they couldn't find an equaliser and the result moves Spurs seven points clear of their fierce local rivals in the Premier League table.
