Leighton Baines wants six points from San Marino and Montenegro to end season on a high
Leighton Baines wants two wins out of two for England to end this season on a World Cup high.
The Three Lions meet up at St. George’s Park today and face a qualifying trip to San Marino on Friday before playing in Montenegro next Tuesday.
And Baines knows that England are expected to pick up three points in San Marino before the trickier task in Podgorica.
The Everton left-back told FATV: "The first game is one that everyone expects us to win and is a game we must win.
"And then it's a tougher game after that, one that's going to be really difficult and one that we really need to win.”
With no World Cup qualifiers after these games until September, the 28-year-old knows it’s a good time to get back-to-back wins to go into the close season with.
And after draws in Poland and against Ukraine at Wembley in recent qualifiers, Baines wants to put those disappointments behind them and reclaim top spot in Group H.
He added: "We want to finish the season in terms of qualifying on a high and in the best possible position to pick it up at the start of next season.
"The two draws put us under more pressure to win this one and the worst case is that we don't lose the game.
"Because there are plenty more games to come.”
