Roy Hodgson has a 'nice problem' now that Ben Foster is ready, says WBA boss Steve Clarke

Roy Hodgson has a 'nice problem' to contend with ahead of his next squad selection, according to West Brom boss Steve Clarke.

Baggies goalkeeper Ben Foster revealed last week that he would be available for international selection again following his excellent form this season.

And Clarke believes that Foster, who last played for the Three Lions in November 2010, would provide strong competition for the likes of Joe Hart, Jack Butland, John Ruddy and Fraser Forster.

He said: "For sure Ben is international class. He has already represented his country and proved that in the past.

"Now he is available for selection again, I'm sure he will prove that in the future.

"Ben is top class, has been great for us all season, is available for England and I'm sure that gives Roy a nice problem."

Former Manchester United and Birmingham 'keeper Foster has five England caps to his name, but retired from international football in May 2011.

But he now feels ready to contend for a spot in the squad again and Clarke feels he's as good as any other English goalkeeper.

He added: "It is all subjective. Ben has been great for us, his recent performances have been outstanding.

"Ben is my number one keeper and has been in great form recently."

"The problems he had two years ago are gone by and large. They are clear.

"He's worked hard this year and diligently away from the games as well, doing extra training and has got himself in a great shape."
