Glen Johnson lauds Ashley Cole as the left-back prepares to win his 100th cap

Glen Johnson has hailed fellow full-back Ashley Cole and says nobody deserves to win 100 England caps more than him.

The Liverpool right-back could line up for Roy Hodgson's side when they face Brazil at Wembley on Wednesday night.

And, on the opposite flank, Cole will earn his 100th cap for England if he features against the Samba stars.

Johnson said: "He has been a key member for any team he has been involved in for many, many years.

"It's fantastic for him and, for me, nobody deserves it more. It was great to see Stevie [Gerrard] get it not so long ago and Ash has been in the set up for many, many years and thoroughly deserves it."

When asked whether Cole's achievement has inspired him to join the 100 club, Johnson said: "Yeah. I'm happy with what I'm doing and how I'm playing at the moment so the longer that continues the better."

But Johnson knows that he and Cole will be in for a busy night against Brazil's attacking talent.

He added: "They'll have some fantastic players that's for sure. They'll obviously be a great side and it will be a tough, tough game but we've been hard to beat lately so if that continues we'll do well."
