England U16 trio make their Player of the Year selections for 2012

It's a long way from the England U16s squad to the Senior Team set-up, but a trio of Young Lions have had a keen eye on Roy Hodgson's team in 2012.

Having recently lifted the Victory Shield during their first experience of international football, following wins over Northern IrelandWales and Scotland, Ryan Ledson, Jordan Rossiter and Tom Brewitt hailed their senior counterparts.

The youngsters were making their England Player of the Year choices, and they were split on who they were voting for.

Liverpool defender Brewitt didn't hesitate with his selection, and it's not hard to see why he went for the Anfield captain.

"Steven Gerrard is my choice," said Brewitt. "Getting his 100th cap recently was a brilliant achievement.

"He's always consistent, a great leader off and on the pitch and was England's best player at the European Championship in the summer."

And from across Stanley Park, Everton midfielder Ledson was equally complimentary about the Three Lions leader.

"What can you say about him that hasn't been said already? He made his 100th cap this year and was excellent in Poland and Ukraine. Steven Gerrard gets my vote."

However, one Reds star in the U16 ranks opted for another of England's key men in 2012.

Liverpool midfielder Rossiter, who captained Kenny Swain's side against Northern Ireland and Scotland, went for the keeper.

"Joe Hart is my pick this year, he's been solid for England all season and has cemented the number one goalkeeping spot for his country."
