Roy Hodgson has named a 23-man squad for next week's trip to Stockholm

England Manager Roy Hodgson has named his squad for the game with Sweden in Stockholm next Wednesday and has selected a 23-man group for the trip.

There is one new face in the squad, as Hodgson has selected Everton midfielder and former schoolboy international Leon Osman for the first time, following his good form for the Goodison Park club this season.

Liverpool's young duo Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey are also named in the full squad, after previously being called into Hodgson's squad as replacements this season.

There is a return to the international scene for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere following his recovery from injury, his first call-up since the game with Switzerland in June 2011.

The squad will meet up on Sunday and train in Manchester ahead of travelling to Stockholm for the game, which is the official opening of the new Friends Arena in the Swedish capital.

What Do You Think?

  • If Roy is reading this, I have a very good feeling that the team will continue to make good headway under his management. He had just five weeks to prepare for the Euros, a tonne of injuries - and yet England still made it to the quarters and also put to bed the myth they couldn't beat Sweden. I am sure other myths will head the same way too. Nice to have a patriotic and educated man in charge, I am behind you 100 percent Matt By Matt (6 months ago)
  • Why Shelvy and Sterling, so overrated and they play for that team in club play. Rio should be recalled, look at his form this year. Forster should get the start in goal after his 2 games against Barca as Hart has not looked good for club lately.By anonymous (6 months ago)
  • Good to see a lot of young exciting players especially Jack Wilshire and Raheem Sterling. Hard choice to make about the midfield but I would have Sterling, Wilshire, Gerrard, Young as my four making use of the Man U connection on one side and the Liverpool connection on the other. • I am a bit disappointed by the choice of strikers. With only 3 to choose from 2 of them have hardly played this season. The problem with this is that if they are lacking in confidence because they are not getting picked for their club team then what does Ron think their confidence is going to be like against a team we could struggle against in Sweden. Andy Carol is fit so why is he not in the squad. Defoe has experience too but I don't rate him at international level however he is a proven goalscorer.By BarelyFrench (6 months ago)
