Roy Hodgson names 25-man squad for games with San Marino and Poland

Roy Hodgson has named his squad for next week's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.

The England Manager has selected a 25-man group for the double-header, which sees San Marino visit Wembley next Friday before the Three Lions travel to Warsaw to face Poland the following Tuesday.

There is a first England call-up for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, whose performances for the Bhoys have impressed this season

And Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross is also included for the first time since the match against Egypt at Wembley in March 2010.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon is rewarded for his form so far this season and will be hoping to win his first England cap since the game with Algeria at the World Cup in 2010.

Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs is back in the squad after his return to fitness and strikers Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll are selected after missing the first two qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine last month through early-season injuries.

The squad will meet up to train at St.George's Park on Monday, ahead of the official opening of the new national football centre by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Tuesday.

What Do You Think?

  • **Englandbach** i agree with yoo about Hodgson's good start with England and that we shouldn't be so negative. But saying that England's performance in the Euro's was solid and that we could have give Spain a run for there money is complete rubbish!!! The way England played at the Euro's was a disgrace, we couldnt keep the ball at all and were lucky to beat Sweeden and Ukraine. There were only a few glimpses of good football from England in the whole tournament. I also Think Carroll has to add more to his game if he is to partner Rooney for England, we cant just have him battling high balls for us, plus Welbeck is far more better!!By kallico (7 months ago)
  • From the other comments on this I hear nothing but complaints. I think it's about time we get behind Roy Hodgson and acknowledge the his really good start to his management! I think England's performance in Euro 12 for example was solid. We only went out on penalties to Italy &, I think, would have given Spain a real run for their money (which Italy didn't) because the England style gives them more problems than e.g. Italy. He's making steady intelligent & calm progress and in my opinion is making the right choices. I look forward to the partnership of Carroll & Rooney now w/ both players coming into form again. Come on guys, give the management, & team, some credit for once! The negativity of England fans & press is a very bad influence on the England team & has been for decades now. Without all this stress from media & fans I believe the team would perform better too.By englandbach (7 months ago)
