The FA's Director Of Football Development picks his England Player Of The Year for 2012
Sir Trevor Brooking has nominated captain Steven Gerrard as his England Player Of The Year for 2012.
With a shortlist of five to choose from, The FA’s Director Of Football Development admits he had a tough choice between Gerrard and his Liverpool team-mate Glen Johnson.
But the West Ham legend opted for Gerrard, following his performances since becoming captain under Roy Hodgson earlier in the year.
He said: “I think it has to be Steven Gerrard for me.
“He has played at a level that he’s never played at before for England and continued to perform for Liverpool and that’s been great for him.
“He’s one of those that often gets unfairly criticised but he’s never walked away and has really come into his own, as the captain, this year.
"Credit has to go to Glen though, for his performances and improvement in 2012."
