England manager Roy Hodgson glad to have the opportunity to call up Wilfried Zaha
Roy Hodgson believes Wilfried Zaha can live up to his potential and become a star for England in the future.
Zaha, just 20, has been given a dream call-up for the Three Lions for the friendly against Sweden on Wednesday night following his superb displays for Crystal Palace over the last few years.
Hodgson knows all about the talented forward after he came close to signing him when he was West Brom manager and is excited by the prospect of having him in the squad.
Hodgson said: "He was obviously a transfer target for West Brom when I was there, so we followed him.
"I know the qualities he brings and with the gap in our squad it was a possibility to invite him into the squad.
"This will be his first main training session as we only had nine players yesterday as most of them had played on the Sunday.
"He looked good yesterday but he was not chosen on what he has done in one or two training sessions.
"I think we have got a very interesting squad of players. We knew there were injuries but we have got more than enough players who are keen and anxious to play in this game."
