Wayne Rooney has been instrumental for club and country in 2011, making five appearances for England and scoring two goals as the Three Lions qualified for Euro 2012.

Rooney scored twice in a 3-0 victory over Bulgaria in September to move up to ninth in England’s list of all-time top goalscorers.

The front man put England 2-0 up when he rose above the Bulgaria defence to bury a Stewart Downing corner, and secured the victory with his second after finishing off a swift counter-attack.

The Manchester United forward also featured in both qualifying victories over Wales, the draw against Montenegro that secured England’s passage to next summer’s European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, and the 2-1 friendly victory over Denmark.

He has had an excellent season for his club, winning the Premier League and scoring in the Champions League Final at Wembley.

Despite picking up a suspension for the opening games of Euro 2012, Rooney remains one of the most valuable members of Fabio Capello’s squad.
