Kyle Walker looks set to play a key role in England teams for years to come.

The Tottenham right-back came off the bench to earn his first cap in the victory over Spain and then took full advantage of his first start by producing a man-of-the-match display against Sweden.

Walker’s performance included his usual lung-bursting runs forward, defensive solidity and maturity beyond his tender years.

In the summer, he was one of England stand-out performers at the UEFA European Under-21s Championship in Denmark, and after an energetic display against eventual winners Spain, some journalists were likening him to legendary Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos.

He was also one of three England players names in the UEFA team of the tournament alongside Chris Smalling and Daniel Sturridge.

And, at 21 years old, Walker should only get better. He has already established himself as a regular in the Tottenham side under Harry Redknapp and looks set to challenge Glen Johnson for a starting spot at Euro 2012.
