John Terry wore the captain’s armband in six of his seven England appearances during 2011. He didn’t add to his goals tally (of six) but the Chelsea defender has now reached 72 caps for his country.

He played in the year’s opener in Denmark, with Blues club-mate Frank Lampard as skipper, and had the armband back on for the Euro 2012 Qualifiers with Wales and Switzerland.

He was as solid and dependable as ever he captained the side for the whole 90 minutes in the first three internationals of the new season, all Euro Qualifiers, helping England to book their place in the Finals.

He was rested for the Spain friendly but was back to face Sweden three days later.
