Making an England debut in a victory against the World Champions is not a bad way to introduce oneself on the international stage - and that’s exactly what Jack Rodwell did in November.

The midfielder came on for the last 33 minutes of the 1-0 win over Spain to complete a seamless transition from the Under-21 set-up to the senior squad.

That was followed by his first start for Fabio Capello in the 1-0 Wembley win against Sweden three days later.

The 21-year-old is highly regarded at Everton and his performances for the Three Lions seem to justify those views. Against Sweden, he came close to scoring when a first-half header clipped a post.

Following those impressive displays, few will be surprised to see Rodwell fighting for a place at next summer’s European Championship.
