The FA confirms that Fabio Capello has resigned as England Manager.

The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.

This follows a meeting involving FA Chairman David Bernstein, FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England Manager with immediate effect.

David Bernstein said: “I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

A media conference with David Bernstein and the Club England Management team will take place at Wembley on Thursday at 12 noon.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference.

  • Well done F.A. although I have great respect to both Fabio Capello and John Terry I feel your decision was correct. Although John Terry hasn't been found guilty yet, it would be impossible to have a captain with allegations of racial discrimination. You have sent a very clear message that there are no exceptions to the fact that racial discrimination will not be tolerated in our country or in football. I wish it could be like that here in Germany where I have had to pull both of my children out of the local football club after the constant mobbing about them being English.By anonymous (15 months ago)
  • What a joke, the english Fa doing what they do best by messing everything up. I'm not keen on John Terry being a united fan but what youve done by taking the captaincy of him before a verdict has been reached is a farce. I would of done the same if i was fabio, Bernstein and the board you should all step down, your making us the laughing stock of world football. I can now see why England always under perform with you clowns running the show.By nelly (15 months ago)
  • Appointing Fabio Capello as the England coach was the worst decisioned TheFA ever made, and its cost £25m to get him out!By Freddy46 (15 months ago)
