Having spent the majority of the year as a valuable back-up to the central defensive partnership of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, Upson had a largely frustrating 2010 no doubt.

However, he did achieve many a boyhood dream by scoring a goal in the World Cup, when he netted against Germany in the Second Round to give the Three Lions hope of a comeback and make it 2-1.

From there, England almost found an equaliser through Frank Lampard, but it wasn’t to be and the former Luton Town, Arsenal and Birmingham City man hasn’t featured for Fabio Capello since that game.
