When Micah Richards made ten England Senior performances in 2007, it looked like the Manchester City right-back was on course to become a Three Lions regular.
However, after appearing in the 3-2 defeat to Croatia that saw England fail to qualify for Euro 2008, Richards dropped out of the Senior set-up and was left to reassert himself for both club and country.
The powerful defender did exactly that, with a consistent run of form at Eastlands and a number of performances for Stuart Pearce’s Under-21s that helped them to the Final of 2009 European Championship in Sweden.
His commitment and determination was repaid in November last year when Fabio Capello recalled Richards to his squad for the friendly against France, replacing captain Rio Ferdinand at half-time.
