The all-action midfielder had an impressive 2010 with both his club Sunderland, where he became a regular and also for the England Under-21 team.
His form for Stuart Pearce’s side during the later stages of their European Championship qualifying campaign, including a stunning goal against Romania at Carrow Road, coupled with an ever increasing influence in the Sunderland team brought him to Fabio Capello’s attention and he was called up for the Senior squad to face France in the final game of the year at Wembley.
Henderson clearly impressed Capello and his staff in training, so he was rewarded with a starting berth at Wembley.
On an otherwise disappointing night for England, against an impressive French team, Henderson featured for the full 90 minutes and will be hoping that he made enough of an impression both on the pitch and behind the scenes to warrant another call-up in 2011.
