James Milner feels England are enjoying their football now.
James Milner believes that England can take the confidence and belief garnered from Wednesday’s win over Slovenia and progress further into the knock-out stages of the World Cup.
The Aston Villa midfielder played a crucial role in the victory, supplying the cross for Jermain Defoe’s winner, and he revealed to FATV that now the shackles of finding their first win are off, things can only improve.
"I think we were a bit too uptight and desperate to do well in the first two games,” he said.
"Of course, we're still desperate to do well, but we're a bit more relaxed and now we're through the group, that can help us kick on.
"We know what we're doing, and you play your best football when you're enjoying it.
“You especially enjoy it more when you're winning, so hopefully we can.”
The Slovenia game was Milner’s second appearance of the World Cup, after he also featured in the opening match against USA, but the former Leeds United and Newcastle man was pleased to have left more of an impression this time.
"It was great to be involved and get another chance after the first game,” he added. “It was a massive night for us all.
"It was a big game so we knew the stakes were high.
“We had to deliver and we did that, so to be part of a big performance at a World Cup like that was great.”
