Manager speaks to FATV's Tim Lovejoy about his squad and the World Cup.
England Manager Fabio Capello named his provisional squad for the World Cup earlier today, before sitting down with FATV’s Tim Lovejoy in the Wembley dressing room to discuss his decisions and plans for the summer.
Capello revealed a 30-man squad on Tuesday afternoon which will now travel to Austria for a training camp next week, as well as games against Mexico and Japan, before he whittles his selection down to the final 23 players who will be heading to South Africa for the competition itself.
It won’t be an easy choice and the debate is already underway across the nation as to who will be heading to the Finals, and Capello gave his full thoughts exclusively to FATV.
During the interview, Capello discusses the situation regarding Gareth Barry’s injury, Jamie Carragher’s return to the international scene and other issues regarding the selection.
"It was not easy to make this decision to select 30 players,” he revealed.
"It will be worse when you have to select 23, because some players have the confidence to stay with us, but I have to decide who these players are.”
Capello also speaks about how international football differs to the domestic game, the technical qualities of his players and his initial plans for the squad in the build-up and duration of the Finals.
"For me, I can’t wait for the start of the World Cup,” he added.
“It's exciting and I'm focused on everything that I have to do and have prepared for, so I hope that the result will be good.”
