Here, Everton's Phil Jagielka answers the questions you put to him in the Montenegro programme in October.  

You played the full 90 minutes against Bulgaria and Switzerland. Were you happy with your performances?

Yeah, it was brilliant. Just to get the start in the first game against Bulgaria felt great. To look back on two quality results makes it extra special.

With your injury problems, does it make it all worthwhile when you pull on an England shirt at Wembley?

There are all sorts of motivational things to get you back from injury, but if you'd told me five or six months ago that I would play three England games on the spin and we'd win all three I would have laughed at you. It was definitely a fantastic moment in my career to be back with England, after probably the lowest point of my career with the injury.

Having suffered a serious injury, are you more prepared to talk to players like Michael Dawson when they get setbacks?

I'm always there to talk if a player wanted to speak about an injury, but certain people handle things differently. I text Daws [Michael Dawson] and he didn't seem to be too down about it, but if anyone wants to talk about my rehab or how I came back I'm more than happy.

Was there a chance you could have gone to the World Cup having recovered from your injury?

There was always hope, but you wonder if you have enough games and enough time to be in with a chance. But realistically, even if I'd got into the 30-man squad I never really saw myself making the final 23-man squad. There was hope rather than expectation really. I watched quite a lot of the World Cup and obviously it was frustrating. It was an unfortunate turn of events - our biggest game of the tournament saw a bad decision turn it against us. It could have been a tight game we could have won, and obviously it went away from us.

What was the mood like when the squad got together for the first time since the World Cup, to play Hungary in August?

It was very good. Obviously it was a young squad with a lot of us not having many caps between us. There were only a few lads with a lot of caps, and the rest of us didn't have a great deal of international experience. We played okay but went a goal behind, but thankfully Stevie [Gerrard] scored two great goals. Once the game was finished I think it was a relief more than anything to get it out of the way, particularly with the disappointment of the World Cup. It really helped us in the next couple of games because that a weight had been lifted and we played with a bit more freedom.

Fabio Capello described you as a 'driver' or 'leader' of the back four - how does that feel to be talked about in that way by the England Manager?

I think he means I'm a little bit vocal on the pitch, obviously last month we didn't have a great deal of experience with Rio [Ferdinand] and JT [John Terry] not being there. I've not got much international experience but I've quite a lot of league games, so hearing that from the Manager was delightful. He was saying, in a sense, that I was one of the most experienced players available at the time.

How easy was it to form a partnership with Joleon Lescott having played with him at Everton?
It made life a lot easier, I'm 100 per cent confident playing alongside Joleon. We compliment each other quite well and we found a formula that works. It was nice to play alongside him again, even more so for your country. I was delighted when Joleon got the nod, and I thought that we had most things pretty much under control throughout the game.

What is Joe Hart like to play in front of?

In the last 18 months Joe has grown in stature, he has done well and played a lot of games, both in the Premier League and now at international level. During the three games I've played with him, whatever he had to do, he did exceptionally well. It's great to know that if an opponent does something that you can't stop, Joe is going to stop them if you don't. We've got a lot of confidence in Joe and the reason behind that is because he's such a good goalkeeper.

What do you see as your strengths compared to your other England colleagues?

I think I'm an all-rounder really. A decent defender, maybe not the biggest, so I have to work at being dominant in the air. I like to think I read the game okay, I just try to get the job done really.

How will England beat teams like Germany and Spain? Is there a strategy to qualify for, or even win EURO 2012 and beyond?

It's got to be positive, if you look at the Under-21s we've done really well in recent years. At the younger age groups, the teams are doing well and hopefully the players coming through will get their opportunities at club level earlier than they are at the moment. There's definitely a lot of talent out there, but it's just about how they progress from the age of 19-21 in my view.
