Capello names final 23

Fabio Capello has announced his final 23-man squad for the World Cup.

Fabio Capello has today confirmed his final squad of 23 players who will travel to South Africa for the World Cup.

Having named a provisional squad of 30 players, Capello has trimmed his squad by seven having overseen a training camp in Austria and victories over both Mexico and Japan.

Gareth Barry has been included in the squad, having made good progress on the injury he suffered last month, while the quartet of Chelsea players who won the Premier League and FA Cup have all been named in the 23.

England travel to South Africa on Wednesday evening, and the opening game will be played in Rustenburg on Saturday 12 June.

i believe michael carrick, matthew upson and emile heskey were a risk and a mistake to take to south africa. matthew upson cant defend to terrys or carragers standards. Carrick can bearly kick a ball never mind pass, shoot or run with it for that matter and heskey dont even get me started oon heskey hes slow cant finish sitters do i need to continue if we lose the world cup its cause of your poor judjement fabio cappelloBy peel (35 months ago)
Hi, I grew up in Germany as an english son and I know how to suffer among others during the last 20 years. I really hope that they make it but I am astonished again about a few decisions - I am sorry guys I do not want to spread negative vibes but... James No1 and the appearance of Heskey ??? I don`t know what to say. Fabio if you read this: if we reach penalty against Germany e.g. please keep 1 sub to the very last moment and then take Joe Hart in to make the keeper for the penalties. He`s young, doesn`t fear anything and has shown it in the U21 Euro Championship half final (I think it was). forget about those unselected...i'd like to see how England tackle their opponents from the very start.......I could not afford to see England fail again this time......I hope England can make it.......I'm a loyal England fan ever since a kid.....lets make it this time ....go ..go...
