England forward apologises for comments made after Algeria game.

The Football Association today issued the following statement from England forward Wayne Rooney further to comments he made as he was leaving the pitch at the end of the game with Algeria which was featured on television:

Wayne Rooney said: "I am as passionate about the England team as anyone. Last night, on reflection I said things in the heat of the moment that came out of frustration of both our performance and the result.

"The most important thing now is to regroup be positive and work towards winning the game on Wednesday. To do this the players will need the support of the fans more than ever.

"For my part I apologise for any offence caused by my actions at the end of the game."

  • Rooney showed an element of naivety in what he said, however it shows his passion and desparation to do well. He was clearly frustrated at his and the teams performance. Players know that they now need to step up and play for the shirt and the millions of proud fans, forget about the games that have passed Wednesday is now our one priority and is, pending a convincing win, our world cup final...and for what its worth coming from a forty year old five a side playing, arm chair, desperate for the boys to play well fan, my advice to Mr Capello is as follows........   • This is totally different England team which qualify for the WC....it's just too bad.......none in the team look stronger than they are in the premiere league. They hardly showed and of their touches ......uninspiring passes and lack determination.
