Fabio Capello names his provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup.
Fabio Capello has confirmed his provisional squad for the World Cup, with 30 players making up the list of those who will travel to Austria in six days time to begin the training preparation for the tournament.
Jamie Carragher is called into the squad for the first time under Fabio Capello, while Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson and Manchester City winger Adam Johnson are the only uncapped players named.
Joe Cole returns to the fold for the first time since England's 4-1 victory in Zagreb in 2008, joining his Chelsea colleagues John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole who secured the Premier League title on Sunday and compete in The FA Cup Final against Portsmouth this Saturday.
They could face Pompey goalkeeper David James at Wembley, one of three goalkeepers in the provisional squad along with Joe Hart and Rob Green.

WHY Emile Heskey!!!!!!! as a striker he does not produce. He is past his best.
How can you award a world cup place, which is the greatest honour a footballer can have, to somebody who has scored this season less goals than i can count on 1 hand.
Do we want to win this tournament?

i cant believe heskey is in the squad its a joke he suppose to be a striker he doesnt score goals, he dont create chances, he brings nothin to the game he might win the odd flick on thats it. Fabio cappello talks about picking players on form or who are fit i cant remember the last time he played 90 minutes or scored or created a goal just look at his statistics over the last season ha has the worst stats over any english striker in the prem league.

Why oh why oh why has Emile Heskey been picked for this squad instead of Bobby Zamora????
Heskey couldn't find the back of the net if he was on the pitch on his own, and Zamora has had the best scoring season of his premiership career. It's not as if Heskey is a target man-Crouch does that job better AND he can score at international level.
I just hope the right people get left out of the squad when it is trimmed down to 23-how many times have we seen players go to major tournaments just because they play for big clubs (you know who you are Phil Neville!!!) instead of the most consistent performers over the season.
Milner has to be on the plane, Huddlestone has been a major player for spurs this year and has to go to the world cup. Joe Cole and Michael Carrick however-I don't think so.
Lets just hope Milner and Huddlestone aren't casualties of players being picked because of who they are andwho they play for, rather than players being there on merit
