Shaun Wright-Phillips added seven more caps to his England tally in 2009 and notched his fifth international goal in the process.

That goal came in the final World Cup Qualifier of the year, the 3-0 victory over Belarus, as England rounded off an impressive campaign in convincing fashion. Peter Crouch tapped home on four minutes and then completed the scoring 15 minutes from time, turning home a rebound following Carlton Cole’s effort. Sandwiched in between was Wright-Phillips’ low drive.

He collected David Beckham’s short corner on the hour mark, cut inside and found the bottom corner to double England’s lead and effectively end the game as a contest.

The Manchester City man started England’s first and last match of 2009 which both ended in defeat – 2-0 to Spain in February and 1-0 to Brazil in November. He was also in the starting eleven against Slovenia in September but his other three appearances came from the bench, against Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Holland.
