Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone was handed his first England senior cap in the final match of 2009, against Brazil in Qatar.

The 23-year-old had previously been named in a Three Lions squad by Fabio Capello, the trip to Trinidad in 2008, but when he came on as a late substitute for Gareth Barry against the Brazilians, the appearance provided Tom with the opportunity to make the step up from the Under-21s team where he played 33 times.

His final outing for the Stuart Pearce's side was against France at Nottingham Forest in March. Injury and suspension ruled him out of the European Under-21 Championship during the summer, in what was his last season eligible for the age group.
