Then Crouch scored with a towering header from David Beckham’s inch-perfect cross from the right and Gerrard bent a left-footer into the far corner for 2-0 a minute into stoppage time.

England had won their first two World Cup Finals matches for the first time for 24 years. They had kept two clean sheets too.
