Frank Lampard is determined to produce a performance for the fans when England face Slovenia on Wednesday.

The Three Lions head into their final Group C game in Port Elizabeth knowing a win will guarantee their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Chelsea midfielder Lampard is confident that Fabio Capello's side can improve on the display in Friday night's goalless draw with Algeria.

Lampard said: "The thing with football is you always have up and down moments. The truth is we are all looking for a win on Wednesday and to really kick on in the competition.

"We are working together. There is nothing we want more than to beat Slovenia and give the fans something to be happy and proud about, and then kick on in the tournament.

"What we have to make sure is that if everyone is not performing at their best, then we perform as a group or as a team.

"The result is a collective thing because we all walk off the pitch whether we win, lose or draw.

"We play in the best league in the world and we have to play with the pace of the Premier League, press teams and be very direct. We didn't play like that the other night."

The team watched a video of the Algeria match on Sunday night and Lampard, who earned is 80th cap in the game, insists the players have now moved on and are looking forward.

"The manager was dealing with the Algeria game in the meeting and we have moved on," he added. "The Algeria game had to be addressed. It was not nice viewing, but we had to look at it.

"The manager just spoke. We watched the Algeria game and the manager addressed it. It has been completely overdone in terms of "crisis meetings" and things like that."

What Do You Think?

  • Congratulation, great display, every players did a magnificent job in holding the Slovenians. We stand by you in the next round...........loyal England fans from Malaysia.By Khairudin (34 months ago)
  • they should play 4-1-4-1....4 defenders, Barry be the defense of midfielder, Gerrard and Lampard be the attacking midfielders, Joe Cole and Lennon on the wing, and Ronney up top!!:) By ChunKit Johnathan Luk (34 months ago)
  • In my opinion, england should play 4-3-3..., with the front man, ( gerrard, heskey and rooney ) this is how england will win the game.. Glory to England.. Thanks.. By Vekstein (34 months ago)
  • Please remove Heskey from the starting line up. What England need is speed and aggressiveness. Include Joe Cole for that extra speed. Give passes to Gerrard & Lampard for the long range shots. Come on England, you can do it. Please do not disappoint us.By anonymous (34 months ago)
  • Frank Lampard is an excellent voice of reason, as is John Terry. If motivation levels hit rock bottom last week as they no doubt did after the Algeria game it is Capello's job to identify this and react to it, immediately. If Terry (and others) had, had discussions with Capello in the days following then Terry would have told the media this on Sunday evening. Terry told us what we all believe is true - the lads were down after the game (as we were) but know that they have to work together, play together and be led to victory on Wednesday - there is no second option. C'mon England - we love you! JoanneBy Joanne (34 months ago)
