The FA confirms that Fabio Capello will continue as England Manager.

The Football Association confirmed today that Fabio Capello will continue as England Team Manager.

This followed a meeting of the Club England Board (Sir Dave Richards, Alex Horne, Sir Trevor Brooking and Adrian Bevington) and formal approval by The FA main Board.

The Club England Board considered all aspects of England’s performance and operations at the FIFA World Cup, and it was unanimously agreed that Fabio is the best man to continue managing the England team.

Club England Chairman Sir Dave Richards said: “We are all still extremely disappointed at our performance in South Africa, and we believed it was important that we took some time to reflect on everything in a calm and considered manner back in England. After fully discussing our performance we remain convinced that Fabio is the best man for the job.

“He went into the World Cup with a reputation as one of World football’s finest managers and we are confident Fabio will benefit from his first international tournament experience and this will undoubtedly make us all stronger for the Euro 2012 campaign.”

FA Board Acting Chairman Roger Burden commented: “The FA Board supports this decision. It is the right decision and will allow us now to rebuild for the future with Fabio leading us forward.”

England Manager Fabio Capello said: "I am more determined than ever to succeed with the England team.

"Sir Dave Richards has called me to tell me everyone at The FA wants me to continue. I explained it is very important we use the disappointment as a motivation in the future.

"I can assure the fans I am now fully focused on our European qualifying fixtures, starting with the friendly against Hungary in August.

"We will look to introduce new players to give the team new energy and I will use all my experience to take England forward.

"I am extremely proud to be the England Manager, it means so much to me and I am determined to succeed."

What Do You Think?

  • I am disgusted with the performance of our so called golden generation of stars this world cup have never seen an england side devoid of passion, talent and desire. they dont deserve to wear the shirt or represent this nation. the F.A needs to get its backside off the fence and start doing something rather than just reaping the rewards of the premier league. The F.A,the manager and the players are to blame they all need a reality check. we will win sod all unless something drastic happens asap. we are the laughing stock of the world and we invented the game in which we have shown we are absolutely rubbish at. • [to England4eva]... apparently the uefa b course takes 3 months (inc a lot of time off work) and uefa a takes a year, which explains why our lazy continental neighbours have so many top level coaches! That said, joking aside, all their ex footballers probably get special assistance into coaching...ours do a publicans' course. The following situation to me is typical of the FA. I tried to contact the FA yesterday morning to enrol for the Level 1 FA Coaching Course. I was told I needed an FA Number and must send an email. I sent an email asking for this, and I got an automatic response saying they will come back to me within 24 hrs. I sent an 'urgent' email this morning, still no reply. I have since found out all the remaining spaces have now gone. Thanks for your help FA, next time you have Sir Trev give a rally cry to sort our beautiful game out, how about having a few more people manning the emails and phones for a few days?By WOZ (33 months ago)
  • Absolute disgrace and copout from the FA and Capello...First Capello should of resigned with dignity just like Maradonna has done at Argentina, has he has not got the morales to do that the FA should of sacked him like Brazil have done to Dunga....Remember my words if Capello is still incharge next time around the results will be the same !!!!!!!!Absolute digrace !!!!!!!!!By Markie D (34 months ago)
  • Are the FA really going to change, Trevor Brooking comments today indicate to me a big NO - No mention of grass roots, No mention of quality coaching, No mention of change, No mention of foreign players, NO APOLOGY - WE ARE ANGRY and want something new. If the people at the FA can't do this GET OUT and let somebody else who has the vision and the will to make the change do it. 90% of the team in South Africa Humiliated the country in from of the world, Lazy, rubbish and not worth the money, DON'T BOTHER COMING BACKBy ROB (34 months ago)
