  • Jose Batista

Jose Batista fails to keep a cool head in 1986.

It’s not exactly a badge of honour but Uruguay’s Jose Batista holds the record for the fastest sending off in World Cup history – a staggering 56 seconds.

You can sort of understand the defender’s exuberance as the match was a decisive group game against Scotland at the 1986 tournament. But his actions certainly didn’t help his team-mates.

The game finished 0-0 and both countries were eliminated from the competition.
