It has been a busy year for the big goalkeeper in 2009, as he played in the majority of the games for Fabio Capello to increase his tally of caps by seven and get a chance to stake his claim to be England’s number one.

His first cap arrived back in 2005 when he featured against Colombia in a summer friendly in the USA and it was almost four years before he got a second taste of international football last February with the friendly game against Spain in Seville.

Green’s impressive form in the Premier League with West Ham kept him firmly in contention and he made his competitive debut in June’s clash with Kazakhstan in Almaty and then enjoyed his Wembley bow against Andorra four days later as England won 4-0 and 6-0 respectively.

With the 2009-10 campaign underway, Green was involved again in the friendly with the Netherlands before finishing 2009 by playing in the World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia, Croatia and Ukraine.

It has been a year to be proud of for the Surrey-born stopper and he will be hoping his form going into 2010 will be able to see him secure a spot in the World Cup squad.
