Following a very good 2008, Gareth Barry began this year where he left off last collecting nine more England caps.
He missed only two matches for Fabio Capello's side during 2009, they were the home World Cup Qualifier against Andorra, due to suspension, and he was an unused substitute away in Ukraine - the only Qualifier in which the Three Lions dropped points.
His appearances in midfield were once again assured as he took his tally for his country to 35 since his debut in May 2000. He also notched his second goal for England, which came a year after his first.
After 40 frustrating minutes in Kazakhstan in June, the scores were still level despite chances for Lampard, Terry and Heskey. But, just before the interval Barry put England in front. From a corner, Gerrard received the ball short and crossed to the far post where the former Aston Villa man popped up unmarked to head home.
It spurred England on to a comfortable 4-0 victory, but a 16th minute booking was costly, adding to one the previous Qualifier against Ukraine, meaning Barry would miss the final game of the season against the Andorrans.
Away from England, Barry joined Manchester City in the summer after spending 12 years at Villa Park.
