Having made his debut in England's final match of 2008, Gabriel Agbonlahor kept his place in the England squad for the first game of this year.

After defeating Germany, then ranked number two in the world, in Berlin to end Fabio Capello's first year in charge on a high, England followed that up with an encounter with European Champions and world number one Spain.

Agbonlahor partnered Emile Heskey in an attacking formation against Vicente Del Bosque's side, with Downing and Wright-Phillips patrolling the flanks.

Despite seeing the first chance on a left-footed volley, the Aston Villa hitman would end up on the losing side as goals from David Villa and Fernando Llorente proved enough for the home team.

Agbonlahor would have to wait another eight months for his next outing in an England shirt, this time from the start at Wembley in the final World Cup qualifier against Belarus.

Leading the line alongside Peter Crouch, Agbonlahor created the opening goal with a fine run into the left channel and a cross that Crouch duly despatched.

As his form with Aston Villa continues to develop, so will his chances of adding to his three caps for England.
