Meanwhile, Kieron Dyer made progress on his fitness today as England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson also awaited an updates on David Beckham.

Skipper Beckham is due to arrive back in Manchester at around lunchtime today after sustaining a slight groin problem for Real Madrid in last night's game against Villarreal.

The England captain is hopeful that he will be fit to face Macedonia in Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier in Skopje.

However, he will have to undergo checks with the England medical staff this afternoon before testing out his fitness in training tomorrow morning.

Sven is already without Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes, as well as Trevor Sinclair, so he is understandably keen for Beckham to prove his fitness.

At least there was some good news for Eriksson today as Dyer, who missed yesterday's session with a hamstring problem, was able to take some part in today's session.

The Newcastle midfielder was put through his paces in a solo session during the first part of training by England physio Gary Lewin.

Wayne Bridge, who was also absent yesterday as the insoles of his boots were remodelled, similarly took part in the session.
