England flyer is taking up the captaincy reigns at Newcastle...
Any coach will tell you that the more leaders you have in your side, the better. With that in mind, Sven will have taken a keen interest in Sir Bobby Robson's latest choice as Newcastle skipper...
With both Alan Shearer and Gary Speed currently out injured, it is Kieron Dyer who has possession of the armband at the moment - and he won't give it up willingly.
The former Ipswich midfielder has blossomed at Newcastle and Sir Bob clearly has an unshakable belief in him. But it is now time for Kieron to take his career onto the next level and firmly establish himself on the international stage.
He looked sharp down the left flank against Liechtenstein and then won the all-important penalty against Turkey Sir Bobby believes that captaincy is now bringing the very best out of Kieron's game.
In the wake of Dyer's captain's performance against Birmingham last Saturday Sir Bobby said: "We're just giving him a trial. He responds to it, I'll tell you that. He likes it.
"It makes him a bit more responsive on his defensive duties, I think, knowing that he's leading the side. In that sense it's quite a good choice."
David Beckham watch out!
