Sol Campbell has lost his race to be fit in time for England's Euro 2004 qualifier in Liechtenstein on Saturday evening.

The FA's Head of Communications, Paul Newman told TheFA.com: "Sol is not travelling with the team, instead he will stay in England so he can continue his recuperation here."

Campbell, who has been struggling with an Achilles injury, failed a medical at the England training camp at Arsenal's London Colney base earlier today, but he is expected to join up when the team returns to England in preparation for the Turkey match next Wednesday.

"He'll be reporting for duty in the north-east on Sunday," added Newman.
