Sven was left to weigh up his defensive options this afternoon after news that Sol Campbell will not recover in time to travel to Bratislava for Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier.

The FA's Head of Communications Paul Newman told TheFA.com: "Sol is still ill and will definitely not travel to Slovakia".

The Arsenal defender was struck down with a stomach bug earlier this week and doubts have hung over whether or not he'd be ready in time to face the Slovakians in England's opening match on their road to Portugal.

Newman added, "At this stage we are not sure if he'll be ok for the Macedonia game next Wednesday, but we will review his situation when we return from Bratislava on Sunday."
