The aim of the tour, organised by AKB Media, is to prepare the Iraq team for this summer’s Asian Cup in China.

Prior to the Iraq fixture, Paul Fairclough’s squad travelled this morning to the Highlands of Scotland, hoping to retain the Four Nations title they won last May in Wales.

After a long season, Fairclough has had to make fourteen changes to the squad originally announced a month ago, with three withdrawals in the last 24 hours from the Aldershot team, that lost to Shrewsbury Town in yesterday’s Conference Play-Off Final.

Michael Rose of Hereford United was withdrawn from the squad after signing for Third Division Yeovil Town, although Cheltenham Town – who last week signed fellow ‘Bull’ Steve Guinan -, have allowed the former Nottingham Forest striker to travel to Scotland.

Despite the changes, Fairclough’s squad still contains plenty of strike power, with Leigh RMI’s David McNiven replacing Guiliano Grazioli. Six players have been called up from the original contingency squad, whilst Woking’s Amos Foyewa and Dagenham & Redbridge’s Glen Southam joined up in the last twenty-four hours, and made the late dash to Heathrow Airport last night.

England start their defence of the Four Nations tomorrow against the Republic of Ireland at Deveronvale FC (7.45pm), followed by Wales on Thursday 20th May at Keith FC (7.45pm) and Scotland at Deveronvale FC on Sunday 23rd (3.30pm).

The squad finish the Summer with an away fixture against the United States in Charleston on Wednesday June 9th, with the likelihood that further changes to the England squad will be made. The last time the two sides met, England defeated the USA 2-1 at Stevenage Borough in 2002.

Reports of all these games will be available at TheFA.com.
