England U19s continued their quest to reach the European U19 Championships on Wednesday afternoon, when they overcame Serbia by a single goal in Belarus.
A second half strike from Reading midfielder James Henry was enough to lead Brian Eastick's team to a second successive win in the Elite Qualifying stages following Monday's win against Poland.
The Young Lions can now seal their place in the Finals, held in the Czech Republic in July, if they can avoid defeat against Belarus on Saturday.
With both England and Serbia having won their opening matches in the group, this contest was important for both teams and that was reflected in the game which was largely quite tight and tense.
England started the brighter though and certainly enjoyed the better of the chances in the first half but unfortunately couldn't find a breakthrough.
Serbia came back stronger after the interval and began to enjoy more of the possession and exert some pressure on the Young Lions.
However, a swift counter attack in the 56th minute saw striker Andy Carroll cut a ball back into the area for Henry to provide the finishing touch and edge England ahead.
That proved enough to be the winning goal and England now know what they need to do in their final game with hosts Belarus on Saturday.
"It was a tricky game for us," admitted Eastick.
"Serbia are technically a very good side and you know that they're going to have spells of possession and pressure, which is exactly what they did.
"They played some decent football in the second half and can definitely hurt you, but we defended well again and got an excellent goal on the counter attack.
"We could have been a few goals up at half time after creating some good chances in the first half, but we didn't take them and sometimes you can be made to pay for that.
"The lads were resilient though and we deserved the win but we haven't achieved anything yet and that's what the players need to understand.
"We now have a big game on Saturday and this is what tournament football is all about, we now need to go and finish the job against Belarus."
Meanwhile, England have been hit by the news that defender Curtis Obeng will be absent from the Belarus game after fracturing his shoulder in the game. He was taken to hospital and is likely to need an operation.
