After a few weeks of being back in training with his club Leicester City and with nearly a week together with the England squad, defender Joe Mattock feels confident ahead of the European Championship finals.
Mattock was part of the U19s squad which reached the same stage of the competition last season only to miss out on a semi-final spot on goal difference, but he admits he is hopeful of more progress this time around.
"We're pretty confident about it," he said.
"We've trained for a few days now and most of the players look pretty sharp, so we are quite confident going into the tournament and hopefully we'll do well."
The left-back, who has already won caps at Under-21 level himself, also believes that the U19s can take inspiration from Stuart Pearce's side, who reached the final of their European campaign recently.
"We can take a lot of inspiration from the Under-21s as they played really well and got to the final," he added.
"So they were a bit unlucky, but we've been preparing for the different situations we may face and hopefully we can do well."
Mattock comes into the new season following an excellent campaign last time around with his hometown team, who convincingly won the League One title and are now preparing for life back in the Championship which always makes coming back in for pre-season training that little bit easier.
"I've been back in training for a few weeks now and feel pretty fit and sharp," he explained. "So hopefully I can make a good contribution to this team and for my club."
