The England Head Coach admits to being devastated by the shock defeat in Northern Ireland, but insists the nation’s World Cup dream is not over.

The Three Lions play Austria and Poland at Old Trafford in October and two victories would still guarantee a place in the World Cup Finals.

Sven said: "Some of our important players will be fitter in October than they are today and that's important for us. I'm sure we will respond in a very positive way.

"We have to come back and It's about working, talking and not panicking. If we panic and switch eleven players, then it will never work.

"I think they are intelligent people in the squad. I think they want to work very hard. Something happened which shouldn't have happened and it's up to us to turn it right.

"People ask what will I do if we don’t qualify, but I could not even dream of not qualifying for the World Cup. We have to win the next two games but the question 'if', that's not to respond to today. We're going to win and that's it."

England will be without Wayne Rooney for the match against Austria because of suspension, and that leaves a space in the squad to be filled.

"To be honest, I haven't thought about that yet," admitted Eriksson. "Of course, we have other strikers. We will see Peter Crouch if he starts to play."
