The 23-man Euro 2004 Squad.
England's prime numbers
By Simon Johnson. Thursday, 03 June 2004.
Take one look at the England squad of the last four years and it is clear that the numbers seven, eight and ten will be vital to our chances in Portugal.
For once again these will be the shirts worn by David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Michael Owen respectively.
The experienced trio were wearing the same numbers at Euro 2000 four years ago and the World Cup in 2002.
In the last European Championships, England failed to progress beyond the group stages, but the threesome have become even greater players since then and will rightfully hope for better things.
But it is clear looking at the squad from four years ago, how many changes have taken place since Sven-Goran Eriksson took control.
There are only five players who have been named in all three squads, with Emile Heskey and Sol Campbell joining the illustrious trio.
But 13 of the squad who will be in the frame to play against France on June 13 played under Eriksson at the last World Cup.
That team narrowly lost out to Brazil in the Quarter Finals so there is great cause for optimism ahead of the European Championships in Portugal.
